Holiday home in the Saale-Unstrut wine region
A holiday home for up to 8 guests on the wooded castle hill of Freyburg (Unstrut), right below the round tower of Neuenburg Castle. Vineyards, the Unstrut river and the old town are within walking distance. Dogs are welcome. The house is being renovated and cannot be booked yet.
The house
Waldhaus Freyburg is a former vineyard house on the castle hill, converted into a home in the 1920s. We are renovating it into a holiday home for families, friends and dog owners.

Four bedrooms with one double bed each, one of them on the ground floor with its own bathroom. About 200 m² of living space on two floors (planning status).
Kitchen-living room with dishwasher, Wi-Fi, TV, washing machine and dryer. Bed linen and towels are included, and there is a barbecue grill. A small sauna, two fireplaces and an EV charging point are planned.
The plot lies on the slope of the castle hill with woodland, meadow and a view west into the Unstrut valley. Parking for four or more cars is right at the house.
We have a dog ourselves. Walks start at the front door. In woods and fields in Saxony-Anhalt dogs must be kept on a leash from 1 March to 15 July.
Location
Freyburg (Unstrut) is a small wine town in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, between Leipzig, Halle and Weimar.
On the castle hill of Freyburg, about 100 metres as the crow flies from the round tower of Neuenburg Castle, known as the Dicker Wilhelm. Not to be confused with Freiburg im Breisgau.
Neuenburg Castle is a ten-minute walk away. The old town with its market square and the Rotkäppchen sparkling wine cellars is about twenty minutes downhill.
Travel by train to Naumburg (Saale) Hbf, with connections from Leipzig, Halle, Erfurt, Weimar and Jena, then take the Unstrutbahn RB 77 to Freyburg, roughly every hour. Bicycles travel free on regional trains in Saxony-Anhalt.
Leipzig, Halle, Jena and Weimar are 30 to 45 km away as the crow flies. Exits: Naumburg (A9), Merseburg-Süd (A38) or Apolda (A4).

There is a Netto supermarket in Freyburg by the river. Larger supermarkets are in Naumburg, about 9 km away.
The only cash machine in Freyburg is at the Sparkasse savings bank on the market square.
